Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 5th of November, cancelled the Government’s order to rename the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards.
On the 4th of November, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) issued General Order (GO) No. 78, which attracted a lot of criticism from people across India.
In the latest announcement, the AP Government issued an ordered to rename the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards as YSR Vidya Puraskars.
The awards are meant for secondary and higher secondary students and were named after the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India and a scientist.
Students are given the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Awards every year on the 11th of November, which is celebrated as National Education Day.
The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Puraskar Awards were renamed after the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the former Chief Minister of AP and Jagan Mohan Reddy’s father.
Twitter users criticised Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for his order.

Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) took to Twitter and criticised the YSRCP Government.
Dr. Kalam has accomplished much for the nation with his inspiring life. @ysjagan’s govt changing “APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar” to “YSR Vidya Puraskar” is a shocking method of self-aggrandizement at the cost of disrespecting a much venerated man. #YSRCPInsultsAbdulKalam pic.twitter.com/7lPaZddNZF

However, on the 5th of November, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his anger towards the Education Department of AP for renaming the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards and cancelled GO MS No. 78.
Apart from this, Jagan Mohan Reddy also ordered the inclusion of awards named after great Indian leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, Savitri Bai Phule and Jagjivan Ram.
The YSRCP Government would give the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards to students who top the secondary and higher secondary exams in AP. The event is scheduled to be held on the 11th of November.
